Oh. The big news yesterday wasn't the 4th indictment and 2nd for sedition, it was Joe saying "No comment" when asked about Maui. It was, of course, bullshit.
So I have reminded you (and others) about "watch this drive" by W.

Ah sorry. I did tell my husband that he should be over there tossing out paper towels. At the same time, I'm not a huge fan of reporters shouting questions at someone getting into a car. Doesn't really matter who you are - it's ridiculous to expect that people are going to stop and give a super thoughtful answer. I wouldn't be shocked if most of them are trained to say no comment and move on. But he should be on the tube making a statement (doesn't have to be a press conference) concerning Maui. And it would be nice if for once politicians didn't rush out to say "We're sorry you're struggling" in the midst of a disaster. Unless they want to take their suits off and help shovel debris or spend their time actually doing something without cameras around, I think they're pretty damn useless. And I think the entire administration should be out there pointing out that these fires are increasing every year along with severe weather swings. In other words, the climate is changing. Let's not point fingers but look for solutions to help people right now - all suggestions are welcome regardless of your party. Email or write your elected representative with your potential solutions. Just cause I'm mean and want them all buried in paperwork

I'm 100% sure that he has already issued statements on the situation and signed off on all the appropriate actions involving the federal government. No doubt he will be on the ground there after things stabilize and stay out of the way as opposed osed to making it about him and photo ops. As I said, the cries are made with crocodile tears and bullshit.

Disagree. He's definitely taken all the necessary steps, and I suspect that even on his vacation he's in touch with the authorities out there to keep updated and make sure they get what they need right now.
But if he goes out there, it will most definitely be full photo-op time and we all know it. It's really the only reason to go anymore. You don't need to be on the ground to see the devastation - all they need to do is fly a drone around and send the footage back to DC.
I would like him to say that as much as he wants to go out there, it's not a good use of resources for the people of Hawaii at this time - they are deep in rescue and recovery efforts and all he would be is a major distraction. Then add that their federal representatives are on the ground (I know at least one of their senators is out there) helping the effort. And the best way for all of us to help is to donate to the rescue efforts - he and his family have donated themselves (and yea, I want a dollar amount - say at least $10K as he can well afford it), and he encourages others to give what they can.
And with all the technology out there, I would think it would be easy enough to arrange video calls with rescue workers and survivors so he can speak and console them without having to be there in person.
Let him set an example of how to be 'there' but not get in the way.

True but it kind of comes with the territory and obviously not all photo ops are created equal. Empathy can be real or imagined and I think it's safe to say most of us can tell one from the other when the cameras are off.
I also think we expect our top public officials to be on site, sometimes together regardless of party, when these things occur to portray unity. Sometimes that shit backfires bigly. Technology is not presence and that my dear friend is becoming a huge problem with our society by thinking it is.

You're right I suppose. The public does want to see top elected officials at the scene of a disaster, and more importantly, I imagine the people involved in said disaster want it too.
Shows that someone does care and is listening at least.
Maybe going forward, the local officials can ask for the president or vice president to come at a certain time. So if there's a fire, the officials can wait a week before giving the all clear (with the understanding that regardless of their party leanings, they can't tell the President that they'll refuse any visit).
So if Maine catches on fire, the governor can say that they want the president to wait two weeks so they can make sure the fire is contained. Probably pie in the sky because you know that Republican governors would try to prevent a Democratic president from arriving for as long as possible, while the opposite will be true for Democratic governors (although I don't think it will be to the degree that Republicans would go to).
