Holy shite, but did Georgia and the Carolinas take a hit on this one.
Co-worker lives in Valdosta, GA (about 122 miles inland from the shore). The eye of the hurricane was right over them. She said it looks like a war zone right now, and that it was scary as hell. They have no power or internet, so she's using her phone for short updates. Sent us a text and said that she'll text when she has more updates, but otherwise she's shutting her phone off to save batteries.
Luckily she and her family are safe and her house wasn't damaged - they have several trees down, but none of them hit any structures. Both her husband and son are state troopers and they told her to stay where she is - it's a lot worse the further they're going out.
Glad it's not coming here. Meanwhile the 10th storm of the season was just named. And it's not September yet.
So happy to know that climate change isn't real and there's nothing to worry about.

First I've really heard about it. Hurricanes can suck, I can't wait for that category 7 to rip Florida clear from the mainland.

It's on it's way for sure.
I only really knew about it because a FB friend is a camp host at a national park near Ocala, FL. She was talking about evacuating and closing the place as a precaution from the hurricane (it pretty much missed them - lots of wind damage, so they do have a cleanup ahead, but no serious damage).
The people I do feel sorry for are the 'generational' people - those who have lived there their entire lives, and who's parents probably have too. Many of them don't have the means or ability to easily pack up and leave, especially if their livelihood depends on tourism. I have little pity for people who moved there within the past decade - if you didn't look at the weather patterns and predictions, then more fool you.
