I heard the first home game is sold out. Didn't hear them say, but when was the last time that FedEx was sold out for a football game?
So the hype seems to be catching even if it's just jubilation over new owners. I have tried to watch a little preseason but without the chief on the helmet I just can't.

I believe it did sell out, so we'll see if the team is worth the price.
I think that if the team had done more to honor the heritage of the tribes that had been the original settlers of the area, they might still have their original name. And that needed to start by acknowledging that for many people, the term is considered to be a slur against Native Americans. Starting with the original words to HTTR Hail to the Redskins Hail Victory! Braves on the Warpath! Fight for old Dixie! Run or pass and score -- we want a lot more! Scalp 'em, swamp 'em -- We will take 'em big score Read 'em, weep 'em, touchdown - we want heap more Fight on, Fight on -- 'Till you have won Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Rah!, Rah!, Rah!
Along with that however, they could have educated their fans and others about the local tribes and their traditions and honored them in various ways. And I'm not talking about the BS acknowledgements about standing on land originally inhabited by xx tribe, but real acknowledgements. A redesign of the logo to represent how a man from the local tribe would have looked on an everyday basis. Information on the local tribes who first settled the area in the programs with links to sites to learn more about them that change with different games so fans are getting new information each game.
Make the name a thing of true pride by linking back to the rich history of Native America.

I think Stafford HS has made strides in this - their teams are the Indians.
Old logo was definitely the stereotype of an Indian at the time the school was built. They worked with the Patowomack tribe to redesign the logo - still an Indian, but a much more realistic rendering. The lacrosse team has also worked with the tribe and the school to install a brickwork mosaic at the field that is a combination of tribal tradition and work with modern acknowledgement of the school and the team's achievements.
I'd be for bringing back the name if things like this were done.
But the Commanders name definitely needs to go - damn, the Washington Football Team was a better name!

Football Team was far better than this but still unacceptable.
Bullfeaters on all the common arguments. It's only taken aa a slur by those who want to make the world pearly white with rainbows and unicorns as mascots. Ask Budweiser how that worked out for them. I'm over that dumb shiiit and over sensitive, attention seeking do-gooders and good ol boys alike. Puhwuh!
DC was never considered Dixie. It's DC. As for the rest? SO WHAT? I never heard those words and I have been a fan since I was old enough to sing it, at least 50 years ago. It's a fight song not the fuckin national anthem which you know... racist too but there's always going to be something that influential supremacists will have weaved into their code. Ok so find that code and edit it out.
Rolls his eyes.
The Redskin's mascot/logo was in no way depicted in any way shape or form as a negative stereotype, unlike the Indians of Cleveland. All that was necessary for Cleveland IMO was to change the official mascot/logo, not the name. Finally, name one group of more than 10 people of indigenous peoples that were involved over the decades of trying to get the Redskin's to change the name. I doubt you'll be able to find any because it was progressive white liberals that started camping out in the parking lot in the 90s and they are the ones that started the failed legal suits. Remember that the name change was forced by Fedex, who threatened to pull sponsorship (cancel culture much) which was worth many tens of millions of dollars. Danny's portfolio could have easily weathered that storm, but apparently had not been able to attract any other top tier mega sponsors because of his abysmal reputation as a team owner and his other sideways business dealing. Again, NOT because of public pressure or legal matters.
Fuck Abe Polin for changing the name of the Bullets, too.

It's sports and at the end of the day we should probably be careful of how much passion we put into it as fans, especially. Truth. And B. Mitch absolutely preached there.

Watching.
So far it's just a game between two bad teams but the stadium is all burgundy and gold, I should say FULL of b n g.

I was so hoping to hear 70,000 people singing httr as the network quickly cut to commercial. There's no hope for me on this subject....
In the normal times you'd expect to hear it such as immediately after scoring, the PA system was turned up to the edge of clipping with hip hop music. But at the conclusion and with the W, you could clearly hear the fight song with the band, fans, and all.
But if you want one more of my ignorant opinions- There were 700000 people in that stadium standing shoulder to shoulder, high fiving, chest bumping and having one hell of a good time and not one of them seemed to care about black white red or brown. Imagine.

Love of a team definitely unites people across party lines, race and class. Too bad that couldn't pass through outside of the staduim.
And you know the Cowboys had a huge party on the plane flying home - 40-0? Jaysus.

On the web news this morning was something about a "brawl" in the stands. Lol.
As near as I could tell t was a little ruckus between 2 guys, one in a Ravens jersey. So my point still has one leg to stand on.

We had the little one visiting for the earlier part of the day (Sunday) and as much as I would have rathered spending the late afternoon I acquiesced to the excruciating pain and watched the beginning of the game. The pain in my body and on the TV. So awful I tuned it off at the half and went to sit outside for a while. Came in and watched the end. I'm a recovering Redskins fan guys but at least I can laugh when shit goes sideways for football team. Just a year ago I didn't care enough to laugh.

I liked my SIL's Facebook post HTTWTF???
Made me laugh.
Probably never going to be a fan, but it it nice to see a high energy level and lots of optimism again. Of course, now Virginia is going to go hog wild (see what I did there?) to try and lure them to build a stadium here. Cause we need that shit. I say that they should 'come home' and build on the site of the old RFK.

WTF is right. Solidly spanked by a good-ish team as I predicted. Howell is terrible and his terribleness was highlighted yesterday. He literally threw the ball right to the Bills at least twice. The big bad Chiefs OC had zero answers for the 4-3 and no running game to speak of. On a brighter note, the Cowboys got the shit kicked out of them by the Cards, which are NOT a good-ish team. They suck too. But the biggest loser yesterday was the Broncos. Miami 70, Denver 20. LOL
