Of tipping.
Yeah, I know. But a new to me experience. She signed up and paid for some kind of "membership" that says FREE DELIVERY.
And go!

Ah, this is a grey area to me. I tip gig drivers - Uber, Lyft, Grubhub and Instacart. Their wage scale is built in such a way that these folks have to rely on tips.
But something like Walmart + or Amazon I wouldn't. I go on the theory that they get a guaranteed flat rate (say $15/hr) and they don't have to rely on tips to get there.
Speaking of instacart, I have a friend who's a park host at a national forest in Florida. She said that one of the tent campers ordered instacart two weekends ago - to the middle of the effing woods!! And a dude took the order. She did ask if they gave him a good tip when he left and he said they did. But hell's bells!

It's the "membership" fee (like $100 or so) that I'm sort of hung up on here. As well as the advertised FREE DELIVERY that's really the main benefit of the service. But when you go to the checkout online, it asks how much you want to tip the driver/delivery person.
Don't want to sound like a Mike, but a while back I noticed that whenever I went to pick up from the store at Southpoint there were always this group of obvious loiterers hanging out off to the side of the pickup area. All brown skinned middle eastern looking guys driving compact cars like Corollas or similar. Just hanging out sitting in camping chairs in the shade. Then after some time I asked about them and was told that's their delivery people. Kind of answered one question and brought up several more. Are they Walmart employees or contractors? Why would they all be middle eastern and why the same cars? Does Pakistan own a delivery company that contracts with Walmart? Not that any of this matters but I like to know things.
I HAD no problem tipping Dominoes or China Garden until they started adding delivery fees to their orders. Most food places don't disclose if they pay that to their drivers which is horseshit and only makes me want to save my money and pick up whatever we ordered. As I've already said, I don't tip on pickup orders. Now it's time to make that decision on deliveries from WM.

If I was paying $100 or more, I would not tip. They should be paying their delivery drivers enough so that a tip isn't needed.
And I don't believe the drivers get a dime of that 'Delivery fee' - if they did, those companies would be screaming it from the rooftops. We usually just go get the food now.
And hell to the no on tipping on pickup orders! As for WM - I wouldn't tip the delivery driver.
In terms of the middle eastern guys, we have had an infux of Afghani refugees recently - I would think that driving delivery would be a fairly easy job for them to get. As long as you have a GPS, you just program the address in and off you go. Back in the late 90s I took one of the airport shuttles from Dulles to National. Driver was Afghani and he and his family had escaped their village during the Soviet occupation. He told me that getting a job as a driver was easy because it was considered 'low-skilled'. He kept the job because he really enjoyed it and liked meeting all the different people coming to and leaving from the airports, and since he had been with the company a while, he was making enough to support his family.

True that. The apps do everything but steer the damn car and in some places well, you know. And speaking of which, ain't nobody tipping a drone.
