Died yesterday - she wasn't in hospice long. I wonder how Jimmy will handle her death - the two of them were inseparable, and had a true love, even in their old age.
They were a true example of patriotism to me - both put others first and lived very plain lives without fanfare. And they used their positions and fame to push initiatives that helped others.
Would that more people in positions of power or influence would do the same.

May she rest in peace.
A long life well lived. He will most likely follow her soon. It's the way of humankind and they pretty much epitomized the best of it.

They totally did.
And looking back at his presidency, he was one of the few who had integrity. Told us that we needed to end our dependency on foreign oil, and the best way to do it was to cut back on personal usage - combine trips, carpool and use public transit when available. And of course the infamous 'Put on a sweater' comment - how many of us are doing that now to save on fuel costs though - I'm typing this wearing one. as we're trying to make up for the longer cooling season this year by keeping the house temps lower.
Not to mention that when the operation to free the Iran hostages ended dismally, he got on the Tee-vee and personally took all responsibility for the mission's failure and the deaths involved in that effort. Imagine anyone doing that now.
I read an article a year or so ago in the WaPo - reporter went to interview them. They told the guy they were going to dinner at the neighbors - nothing fancy, but he was welcome to join them. Hot dogs and chips on paper plates - we don't like doing a lot of dishes was the explanation. Just made me smile - I too hate doing dishes and loved that they didn't make any fuss.

Read an article last night in the WaPo - interview with a woman in DC who received a Habitat home. She said that both Carters were there sawing, hammering, and painting right along side of her. She was in her mid 30's and was exhausted by mid-afternoon. They were in their 60's and going strong.
She said that they were regular folks and just as nice as the rest of the crew. And no job was below them either - Rosalyn was using the table saw to cut wood, Jimmy was on the roof nailing in shingles.
The 10 houses they built are worth $350K now, but with the exception of one (owner died), they are all still in the same families. Woman in the article passed it down to her kids, who are now passing it down to theirs. And she said that when the bankers told her before she signed the deed that her mortgage payments would be $189/mo she burst into tears. Then Jimmy and Rosalyn gave her the keys and said "Welcome to your new home!"
I admit to tearing up some...

Of course she had a beautiful service. It was somewhat of a shock to me that Barry and W didn't attend but more of a shock that Melania did. Not that I think any more of her because we all know that family doesn't do anything without something being in it for them, even if it's the appearance of empathy or reverence, which we also know they are void.
But it was gracious of her to attend nonetheless.
Jimmy looked like a corpse and I'm sure we'll be talking about his funeral in a few weeks if not days. They said he insisted on being there. You won't hear me say this often but God Bless him and if there's any such thing as heaven, I hope they both get the VIP suite.

I did think it was gracious of her to attend, and the Carter family specifically invited her and told her that Rosalyn wanted her there. A true sign of class.
I think Jimmy was expecting to go first. I did read an article that said he sat and held her hand for quite a while before she died.
And if there's not an express route and VIP suite for them, I honestly don't know what to day.
