This time to my eldest.
She called at 7:15 saying she felt like shit and asked if I could drive her to urgent care. Seeing as this woman usually doesn't ask for a ride until she's at death's door I asked if 911 was a better option and she said no.
Got in the exam room, and as soon as she described the symptoms I knew what it was. They did a test and sure enough it came back positive.
She did get a prescription for paxlovid, but the jackass of a doctor told her that the drug was only approved for emergency use, and they didn't know about the long-term effects. In the next sentence, she said that there don't appear to be any, but my daughter should do the research. Also said that she'll be feeling better within 2 days of taking it.
Did I mention that my daughter felt like shit and could barely sit up? Didn't argue with the jackass since she did call it in - just took my daughter back to her apartment, and ran over to Giant to get the prescription and some groceries for her.
And huge shout out to the Giant on Harrison Rd - the pharmacy wasn't open when I got there, so did the groceries first. As I came back, they were just unlocking the gates. They asked what I needed and I told them I was picking up for my daughter. They asked what the drug was and as soon as I said Paxlovid, they were on it! Got it filled in less than 5 minutes and I was on my way.
Hopefully it does the trick and she starts feeling somewhat better.

Oh damn. Our kids being sick is stressful no matter what and no matter how old they are but at least youth is on her side. I hope the paxlovid does it's thing and keeps things in check. And hope you didn't get the cooties on you during all of that.

I read an article yesterday about how some scientists think Covid is causing more autoimmune disorders. It’s a vile virus.
I hope she’s feeling better soon.

Yeah, I was stressed getting that call, even though she's 29.
Like I said, she NEVER asks to be taken to a doctor unless she's really, really sick. She went for almost 24 hours with appendicitis before calling me to say her stomach really hurt and she was throwing up a lot.
Just texted her to see how she was doing - wanted to let her sleep in. Hopefully the Paxlovid is starting to work, and she's still feeling shitty, but hasn't gotten worse.

Good to have a good pulse oximeter on hand. As long as your 02 is good, and fever is controlled......
29? Dang. We been friends a while.

She said that she still felt like shit yesterday. Did the afternoon check-in and I'm waiting for an update.
And so far O2 is good - just lots of coughing.

Talked to her Tuesday and she was on the mend although still feeling crappy. But the Paxlovid prevented it from getting worse at least.
Now of course I have the shit. Tested positive yesterday and was flat on my ass all day. Have a different antiviral (can't remember the name), but it doesn't have as many side effects as Paxlovid (especially the metallic taste). Have to take 8 pills a day which sucks, but OTOH, I am able to sit up and type for a bit.

So our go to Chinese food place has the plexiglass up again. What do they know that we don't?

It’s that time of year. Uptick in flu, RSV is at peak, and uptick in Covid. I’m really surprised D didn’t mask up to take her daughter to the hospital. (Yes, I still mask up when there is high incidences of Covid).

She probably did but it's not even close to being 100% effective. Even if you take just about every precaution, other than living in a sterile environment and or being naturally immune, you're probably going to contract it if exposed. I still haven't decided on the "booster" but got my flu shot last month. Once it's been a few weeks without any episodes I will re-evaluate, mainly because I don't want to put her at any more risk than she's already at.

Didn't get the booster yet - think I have to wait a few weeks now, but I need to check.
Don't know if it's a mild case or if the antivirals are amazing or both. Still stuffed up and tired, but getting shit (like laundry) done around the house.
Forgot I was on the emergency pager this week, so of course I was paged out on Friday morning at 6:30am. But after resolving the issue, I couldn't get back to sleep so decided to work for a few hours to save some leave. Ended up leaving around 2 as I had worked pretty much a full day. Slept for 3 hours, but was otherwise okay.
And happy that I was able to save 8 hrs of leave too.

I believe it’s longer than a few weeks. My friend got her booster a few weeks after having Covid last year and suffered for it.

Thanks John.
Did get one of the antiviral side effects. Strangely not until Sunday afternoon - skin rash and hives. Lovely, but I'll take it over the vid any day of the week.
And it's improved some since yesterday morning when I took the final dose of them.

That's a fair trade off for sure.
I had a waking attack last night for the first time in almost what? two weeks? FML. So now I have to reset the calendar on deciding to get the vax. Even though the more I think about it the less inclined I seem to be. But the final decision won't been made until I'm certain this cycle has run its course.

This new variant is very contagious, and the same issue still remains - if you have comorbities, your risks of complications are a lot higher. I think people are forgetting that.
