I just had a weird thing happen. Around 6 pm or so, a woman appeared at my front door, knocking and ringing the bell frantically. When I answered, she told me she was my next door neighbor and their dog ran off, last seen in my front yard. There was an envelope taped to my front door with my mail delivery person’s first name on it. She asked me if I was D—, and I told her that I wasn’t and introduced myself. We discussed where her dog could be exploring and she left, hollering her dog’s name. I didn’t think too much of it until I heard a stripping sound about an hour later. I had left the light on, as I was expecting packages. So I glanced at the door and noticed the envelope was gone. But I had not received notice that my packages had arrived. So I checked the porch, and 2 of the 3 packages I was expecting were there, but barely on the porch. (My mail handler thoughtfully places them on the mat, as close to the door as she can.). Plus, none of the mail that has been delivered to my mailbox was included in the delivery, which D- usually does. She always checks the mailbox and brings everything up to the door.
Now I’m worried that D- didn’t receive her Christmas card and gift/tip. It’s an Amazon gift card, so easily stolen. Maybe D- was in a rush (it was late) , but if she had to come up on the porch to grab the envelope, why didn’t she bring the packages sitting on the steps to the door? Other mail delivery people have brought stuff to the door without removing notes/cards addressed to D- in the past. Am I overthinking this?

Update. Around 8:45, I received notification that all 3 packages we delivered. Just checked and the 3rd was on the steps.

Did the envelope have her name on it?
Wondering if a different mail carrier delivered your packages yesterday (tis the season for double-shifting) and took it instead.

Don't know if this would be easier for you - I put the card for my mail carrier inside the mailbox with the flag up - but I put a ribbon or bow (or twine - sue me) so that it stands out and doesn't get tossed in the outgoing mail bin by mistake.

Yes, it had my mail carrier’s name on it. And, as I noted above, I’ve left many notes, cards (some with cash), sticky notes, etc. with her name in the past. Other mail delivery people ignored them, or at least let them be. I’m just worried that it’s fallen into someone else’s hands, not even a mail carrier.

I can see that. If it did, may the crooks get something crappy that can't be returned with the card.

Yay! She got it! I found my mail and packages from the past week neatly staked on my doormat, along with a thank you card and a Christmas card from her. I’m still not convinced that she was the one that removed the card from my door (because of the where the packages were left that night), but it got to her, nevertheless.

Great! I was holding out on this one because you know I'm just so pessimistic these days about society and practicing some toxicity reduction yoga..... and yet still holding out hope that, and really specifically, thinking "Well maybe the carrier that day took it and gave it to her".

Yeah, me, too. Although the season has been less depressing for me so far because I haven’t been inundated with tv ads, tv specials, Christmas movies, etc. So not having tv has been a plus in that regard. It helps me ignore the holidays.

Yay! So glad that she got it! And Pam, how can you not be watching the Hallmark Movie? You know the one where a Big City Girl/Big City Boy comes home for Christmas only to find out that the family farm/small business is about to go under. But the annoying girl/boy next door is there to help save the day, and man have they grown HOT over the years. But of course, you're a Big City person and will resist the charms of your small town upbringing, family and of course the hottie helping to save it all. Until of course the big moment arrives - you look into hottie's eyes, they look into yours and you end up kissing. Forget the Big City - you now realize your mistake in leaving your quaint little town and will move back for life. Oh, and the quaint little town has lots and lots of nice folks living there, there are vibrant and thriving businesses, and if you work with your hands for a living (mechanic or farmer or construction worker), you are never, ever dirty. You are Teflon, and grease and dirt slide right off! It goes without saying that there are no bigots or racists in your town and for the most part no one who is gay lives there either. Oh, I should have said Spoiler Alert! Sorry to have ruined your one Christmas movie.

I can’t stand those Hallmark movies! Hate them! The only thing I ever watched on the Hallmark channel was Frazier reruns, and maybe some Golden Girls reruns.
I admit, I’ll miss seeing Its A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. That’s been a tradition for many many years. But I can nearly recite them both, so no great loss. Christmas is just another day.

No. I have a state of the art 4K television and am watching old DVDs on it. I have no tv service, so cannot watch the stuff I used to watch. Just DVDs. (I did get a 4K DVD of Oppenheimer this week that I’m looking forward to watching.). I spend most of my free time reading now. I only watch about 2 to 3 hours of tv a day. I escape, but into books rather than television.
I happened to run into my mail lady at the door just now. She is so, so sweet!

So John, what I'm now hearing is that the New Hallmark Christmas Movie may be on DVD, and if so we MUST obtain it - it's the gift that keeps on giving and Pam can watch it year-round!
