So our esteemed governor and the unnamed members of the Virginia Stadium Authority have agreed to make a rich man even richer.
Have you looked at the terms of this deal?
$2 billion dollar investment overall.
State is paying $1.6 billion of it, and Leonsis is paying $4 mil.
But don't worry kids, the stadium and the businesses to be named later will more than cover the costs!
And if not, well you all don't mind paying for Mr. Leonsis's limo, and Ovi's $10 million dollar contract, right?
You know that I don't think athletes are worth millions upon millions of dollars. But this is what we all should be up in arms about. If Teddy has enough money to keep those teams running without need to sell them, then he has money to pay for a new stadium or improvements to Capital One.
For the record, the last time I went to a game was 2 years ago, and there was nothing wrong with the stadium or any amenities it had. Fan experience was just fine. And I felt perfectly safe traveling to and from the game. In fact, I was down there this past September and didn't feel unsafe either - there were homeless folks, but no more than in any other urban area, and they kept to themselves. OTOH, was in Reston last weekend, and the panhandlers were everywhere and rather aggressive.
Maybe Youngkin can say that in return for our investment, the teams have to make tickets affordable for all VA residents. We can take a family of 4 for $100 to any game we want. Cause I'm a generous person, I'm willing to up the amount to $200 for a playoff game.
I've already written to the governor to say that this is a raw deal. Planning on writing to my senator and delegate later today.
