Is laying off a crap ton of people just in time for the holidays. Of course nothing to see here.
But, a good friend of mine runs a gaming company called Green Ronin - this may ruin her business. They make role playing games, some board/card games and books. While they are not affiliated in any way with Hasbro, their cutbacks will affect them - businesses usually carry 'niche' products like role playing games when the market is robust. Otherwise, they switch to the tried and true favorites. Between this and Covid (which really destroyed sales), she's afraid that they won't stay afloat.
And while they only employ 4 people, it will destroy them all financially if they go under. Like many small businesspeople, she has no savings - she plowed almost all of her savings back into the company during Covid so they could keep paying employees. Most of their products are printed and shipped from China, so they had new products that they couldn't fill pre-orders on. And of course, many of those assholes demanded their money back because she should have had the team swim out to the ships to grab those games!
It's just frustrating as hell - people like her should have received the pandemic loans, but she was blocked out because the servers crashed and she couldn't get in to apply. But that's okay, because Tom Brady and Michael Jordan got their loans approved.
