As I was preparing to apply the hot compress and sleep mask last night, a really bright orb appeared outside my window for just a second or so. I first thought it was lightening. Then, my iPod and phone beeped - that sound of the onset of charging - and I knew a power glitch had just occurred. A transformer had blown! A few minutes later, the power was out for good. I didn’t report it at first, thinking that surely Dominion was alerted when transformers blow like that. But after 2 pees without being able to flush, I reported it around 0630. When I re-awakened around 0900 for the next pee, power was back. Thank goodness! Yay, I can flush again!
I don’t think they’ve repaired the transformer as yet. I haven’t seen any trucks out there and don’t think they could have fixed it during one of my naps, since they are quite short in duration.

It's usually a beautiful green color. Phosphorus or something not really sure. One thing kinda nice about this area is the substation is very close. In fact, it was directly behind us at the old house. So it was rare for the power to be out for more than an hour or two.

In south Stafford, we had a free standing transformer in our backyard. It sat on a concrete slab. The ones here are on poles.
I could be wrong about it being a transformer, but I’m not sure what else it could have been to cause a power outage? I kept checking for over an hour to make sure there was no ensuing fire.

Yes. When the house is fed off of power pole, the transformers are on the pole. If the utilities are underground your transformer will be in a big green box on the pad. I don't understand why but I've never heard of the ones on the ground blowing up. Just the ones on the poles.

I seem to recall one on the ground going boom back in the day, but it was the result of a lightening strike.
I myself am a fan of underground cables. We still lose power, but usually because an area with poles came down and it affected us.
It's expensive as shit to install though - Dominion did it when this subdivision was built in the late 80s.
We had septic growing up, but city water. I am thankful we didn't have well water - was bad enough dealing with septic issues!

Our part of Grafton was totally underground wiring. Here, it is poles on the road but underground to the homes from the road.
And with King George’s public water issues, I’m thankful that I’m on a well most of the time. The public water here is icky (you should see what comes out of the faucets sometimes!), expensive and unreliable.

Stafford has amazing water! Growing up, we had hard water, and I have many memories of lugging fricken bags of salt to the water softener to dump them in. Of course that wasn't until I was in HS. Elder siblings had the job first.

Yes, Stafford (and the city of Fredericksburg) have great water. When friends from Rockville would visit us, they always remarked on our fabulous drinking water. When I first moved here to KG, I always felt like I couldn’t get the soap rinsed off, because the water is so soft!

Oh, yes. Both Lynchburg and Bedford have soft water, too. Hated showering there.
