Doesn't this dude get any type of security briefings? Maybe he only gets them once a month?
But with all the shit going down globally right now, you'd think that this couldn't happen.

From what I’ve read, he’s a very private person. My guess is he went in for something like a colonoscopy. All of my husband’s “issues” started after a colonoscopy. He had a polyp (or several, most likely) removed during the procedure. The next day he had significant bleeding from his rectum. They couldn’t get it to stop and he ended up with a iliostomy, after they removed a part of his small bowel. Because of his smoking and drinking, his circulation was basically nil. The first stoma died due to poor circulation and he had to have another surgery, after which they left him open to heal from the inside out. It went on from there.
Anyway, I hope SECDEF’s outcome is much more positive but I can see how this can happen.
He should have notified the proper people as to what is going on from the start.

Regardless of the procedure this is 100% unacceptable no matter how you look at it. He should hand in his resignation immediately. I'm guessing of course, but would be willing to bet this was done against his TOS. Before you torch me, remember his rank and what would be required of any person in his position, all the way down to a scrub.

But I DO NOT think the press/public should have been alerted. This is what is pissing me off. Yes, the national security people and White House should have been alerted, but not the public.

Well, I don't think that his being hospitalized warranted a presser.
But being MIA for 3.5 days 100% did. And that press conference should have started with "I want to inform you that the Secretary of Defense is being replaced by XXX"

Chuck Norris - he'll kick the shit out of our enemies.
Oh wait - that's Trump's first choice probably.

Since when is prostate surgery for cancer considered elective surgery? I mean sure, you can elect not to have it but normally elective surgeries are something far different in medical terms.
I feel for the guy but waitresses get fired every day for calling in sick, let alone not calling in.

In later years, treatment for prostate cancer is usually “careful watching” as most cancers of the prostate are very slow growing. Most likely, a person with prostate cancer will die from something else. So, in these cases, treatment is elective. Also, there are many different treatments. My dad chose radiation (he had radioactive “seeds” inserted into the area. He couldn’t allow my niece on his lap for many months after having it done.). He was at least 10 years younger than SecDef. So it all depends on how old the patient is and what type of cancer has been diagnosed.
Now, it was discovered after Ben Stern’s death last year at 99 years old that his prostate cancer had metastasized to his bones. But how many of us live to 99? (Yes, that’s Howard’s father.)

Surgery for Prostate cancer is rare, and usually means it's more advanced.
And he didn't tell Biden that he had cancer!! He 100% needs to go, and should already be gone. I'm assuming that he's subject to the process that any government employee is in the armed forces, so they can't just force him to step down. But Biden should say that in his absence, XX will assume all of his duties.

The honorable thing to do for him would be to resign. He failed to perform his duties and made irresponsible choices that left his country compromised. This put the President in a bad position, and even though I think he should asked for his resignation, it looks like at least for the time being that he's going to only act to implement tighter protocols. Which is like, HUH? He's the SOD not the cleaning lady!

Biden's being an asshole - at the least, dude should be on extended leave with someone else as acting secretary.
