A couple nights ago, I was watching the final episode of season 3 of GREYS ANATOMY. The last DVD had been loose in the folder when I opened it, but I didn’t think too much of it - just secured it on that spindle thingy. Halfway through the fucking episode, the screen kept freezing, starting back up, freezing, then just stopped playing. So last night, I decided to start season 4. When I saw a synopsis in the “previously on…” I was really pissed. What? Christina was left at the altar? What’s over? Who is the new chief of surgery? So I went back to the last DVD and tried cleaning it. That made things even worse. It didn’t bother skipping through, it just died about halfway through the episode. I’m going to try screen cleaner and a chamois on it tonight.
I stopped watching Homeland because those DVDs kept skipping. It’s so annoying!

Happened to us a bunch of times when we rented DVDs from Redbox. Have actually ejected CDs from my moving vehicle. So frustrating! And there are supposedly only a couple of ways, including a relatively inexpensive machine that repairs them. Watched some youtube videos about it a couple of weeks ago. They have to be resurfaced in order to work correctly/

Yeah, I checked Amazon for DVD cleaners and saw a cheap device (under $30), so figure I’ll give it a shot. It’s supposed to be here tomorrow. I’m finishing up a book anyway.

Ran it through (after figuring out that the batteries I bought from Woot were crap). I was able to see more of the episode than I did before, but it still crapped out. I will put it through the process again.
My DVD player isn’t that old, but it cannot play 4K DVDs. I wonder if a newer one would be less sensitive?
Back to Tess Monaghan, PI. (About a week ago, I discovered a treasure trove of Laura Lippmann novels. I had been reading them in order of release when I was assaulted on my front porch. I love her books! I read one a couple months ago that was very Misery-like. Fantastic, even though Tess only made a cameo appearance. )

They said it doesn't work on blu rays but that doesn't make any sense to me. Has nothing to do with the disc.
The video I saw was a guy testing the manual version (same brand) and IIRC he had one or two that had deeper scratches but after going through 2-3 times they all eventually worked.
I would like to be able to recover some of my CDs because I don't have bluetooth on the car stereo. Otherwise they are basically obsolete. Speaking of which, I have 2 blu-ray players here that we don't use because we stream everything and sold off our big collection of dvds. Nowhere to put one now either, the tv is over the fireplace.

We unearthed an old DVD player when cleaning the basement. Going to put it on one of the buy nothing FB groups. I figure someone will probably use it.
On a side note, we watched the Emmy's last night. Only two of the nominated shows (Better Call Saul and Abbott Elementary) were on broadcast TV. Every other show/performer was on a streaming service. I had seen one or two of them, but it sucks that the only way to watch 'award winning' shows is to pay for a streaming service or 5.

I thought the drama winner was on HBO? Secession or something like that?

The batteries from Woot are carbon-zinc. I bought them a while ago in bulk (maybe a year+ ago?) and I have discovered that they don’t age well. So, I’m back to good ole Duracells. They never disappoint.

I still have my sound system and some other AV components sitting in a closet. Would love to set up the whole tv, av (inc the dvd/s situation but there's someone here that strongly opposes my speakers being placed in the living room (where the big screen is). The second bedroom will probably get outfitted for Nugget at some point in the not-so-far future so that leaves the garage and that 100% is off the table. It sucks because it's a very nice system with A+ sound and power. The next time her daughter takes her for a day trip, I think she's going to return to a new reality by way of Dark Side Of The Moon being heavily coerced from those Polk Monitor 70 towers and me sitting here with Bob Marley and a biiiig smile on my face.
You know what they say- Easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Pam, the big winners were Succession (HBO MAX) and The Bear (Netflix). Don't have HBO, but The Bear is really good. Too bad so many people can't see either show.

So how about a review on that DVD repair thingy? I was in the car the other day with a CD that I really like but was basically useless past the second track. I'd rather not put any money in the car stereo head unit so being able to fix those CDs would be golden for now.

I haven’t visited the issue again. I’ve been binging on Tess. 🤣🤣
I just looked at it again. I’ve got enough of the goop to do a couple more rounds. I’ve ordered more, as it is required to avoid damaging the discs; but it wasn’t a prime order so it won’t arrive until next week, I believe.
The thing has an outlet for an electric plug-in, but it didn’t come with it. I guess that is an optional addition. I can see using lots of batteries to get a good, fixed disc (it takes 6 AAs).

Looking at it, you have a wheel that makes firm contact with the surface and it spins, creating friction. So is the wheel doing the work or is it the magic solvent? I think about it like clear coat. You see scratched on a car they are mostly in the clear coat which is why they can be buffed out. The magic there is the very fine abrasive (pumice) in the buffing compound. That's also why you can do it with a soft cloth and by hand. So, if you divide the multiplier and subtract x and y from a z with a factor of pie, seems to me like resurfacing in that manner equals the same, be it a clear coat on your Mar-say-dees Benz or your Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine CD. Right?

You’ve got the concept down.
Tonight I let the wheel go until the batteries ran down (the instructions say to let the disc run through 2 full rotations - I think it died after about 5 or 6 rotations.) Then I dried, then buffed and buffed and buffed. The fucking disc crapped out even earlier this time. 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve been enjoying Homicide. Love Belz. Daniel Baldwin is a greasy mess. And I can’t see Ned Beatty without remembering him in Deliverence.
