From Heather Cox Richardson's blog:
Finally, Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan of Punchbowl News confirmed this evening that although MAGA Republicans have insisted the border is such a crisis that no aid to Ukraine can pass until it is addressed, Trump is preventing congressional action on the border because he wants to run on the issue of immigration. Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told a closed meeting of Senate Republicans that “the nominee” wants to run his campaign on immigration, adding, “We don’t want to do anything to undermine him.” “We’re in a quandary,” McConnell said.
There's no quandary here Mitch. Vote on the damn bill. Let your deranged leader point to it as a clear example that Republicans can lead and made 'Sleepy Joe' acknowledge that there is an immigration crisis. But did he do anything - NO! Only the MAGA republicans had the guts to give the border patrol money to push back the invaders!
Biden better shift from abortion to this and fast. Point out that the senate crafted a bill with broad bi-partisan support and now won't bring it up for a vote because a man who is no longer in office is afraid of it. But why is Mitch McConnell afraid my friends? This bill is a start to provide money to the border patrol to upgrade security at the border and I would hope that this would be an issue that both parties agree on, rather than a talking point for a candidate running for office. Why are the Republicans sitting on their hands and refusing to vote - are they all this afraid of one man?
Feel like we're all screaming into the wind right now. The goddamn Democrats need to start speaking out - don't compare Trump to Hitler (that's what he and the rest of the MAGA crowd want). Instead loudly point to legislation being held up by Republicans and ask what they are afraid of. Why are you allowing ONE MAN to hold so much sway over you? You are smart and capable of thinking for yourself. Point out two bills - just two - that the Congress and Senate passed during his tenure as president that helped our country and your fellow Americans regardless of party.
