Seem to be hearing about this quite a bit lately. But new it is not. I was dead center of two giant fights at two different high schools. The one I remember vividly was there were around a dozen of us, most of us being friends, from Mt. Vernon HS that took our trades classes at Thomas Edison HS over there on Franconia Rd (Springfield Mall). It usually was a minute or two before lunch so we went from the bus or however we got there right to the cafeteria. Well, that day they had some tables decorated for their football team who just sow happened to have a game against us that night. Please note that I didn't give Two Fucks about school athletics or spirit crap back then. Anyway, Victor Cici aka Magilla Gorilla, of our group, does a little work on the signage. He and one other guy were Mascot forward that way. Bell rings, kids start coming into the cafeteria, football team is pissed, talking about kicking our asses, and Magilla throws food at them. Ho lee fuck. Brawl. I had nowhere to go and a couple of guys that went there, like me, to learn how to lay brick, so they were my best chance of getting out of there alive. Next thing you know you can hear the sirens. They bring everybody outside and it goes off again. Cops literally taking and throwing hands with "kids". No cell phones then and I think Edison won but honestly don't remember that because *.
Oh and it was the second time the cops called my old man to come get me from there. The first time was when we ditched classes and went and got hammered over in the Hayfield Pits, which was adjacent to the school property but it was at least a square mile of nothing but fun. The guy I was riding with decided to use his ol ford truck to take on some of the little bunny jumps they put back there for the dirt bikes. So we get a nice bounce and hear something in the motor crunch and the truck went into cardiac arrest. The battery jumped out of the tray and into the radiator fan. They fans weren't plastic then. Battery acid all over the motor and wiring. So we start walking back. Should NOT have walked back to the school.
