That gagging cough is getting me this morning already. Her sister and Thurston Howell, IV are supposed to be coming over today. I am on my way to Lynchburg (Dr. appoint) hopefully 10 minutes before they get here but you know how my luck is- they'll ring that fuckin doorbell before I finish typing this post.
One Ativan down and waiting.
Can't remember the last time she and I were more than 5 miles apart. Okay, well I've been out to the kids' houses without her once or twice, to pick up or drop off the puppies. But before that, it would have been for work. So 6 years? At least she'll have "company" for a little while.

Ugh - hoping appointment goes well with little waiting. And no traffic there or back.

The ride out was super nice, no traffic at all. Coming back was a bit stressful one because it was dark (deer alert) and two because I had to come back through Charlottesville to get something to eat and get out of the car for a few minutes because of my back. So that meant tons more traffic, traffic lights, assholes with their high beams behind me, McDonald's smothering my fish in tarter sauce to make up for all the times they skimped on it, wearing said tarter sauce all over myself, and about 20 minutes extra road time getting back.
I did not get warm fuzzy feelings at the doctor, well, from the person that screened me for the referral to my psych. She cautioned that the psych might not be comfortable seeing me because of the distance (yeah because I was literally in Lynchburg listening to this right?) and whatever, I started losing my hearing at that point. Then the doctor came in and started talking about heart disease and colonoscopies. Thank God I had already had 2 Ativans by the time I got there. The ball is in their court and I'm hoping to know something wrt the BH in a week or so, because if they don't give me EXACTLY what I want, then I'm not going back there.
Now for the good news. I had a great time seeing my friends and hanging out with them for a while.

WTH? Like why wouldn't the psych want to see you if you're willing to make the damn trip?
Had my quarterly psych appointment today. Drove to Dale City only to find out that he was working from home due to a family emergency, so it was going to be a telehealth appointment! At least it was a nice day and no traffic up or back. Plus I had some decent tunes.
Glad you got to hang out with your friends - did the doctor themselves talk about the referral to the psych?

Got a call this morning that the psych provider indeed denied my request to be seen out there, citing the distance. So I had to scramble to un-do the move to their primary care and rescind the authorization for records transfer. I called mw primary care here to inform them of what was coming and to disregard anything sent from JHC in Lynchburg. Hopefully everything doesn't get caught in a clusterfuck.
And I'm back to square one with her, the NP at MWPC, in charge of my psychiatric medication management. FML

So tell me about your doc you see in the Hoodbridge area. Is it what I'm looking for in terms of the same provider handling the BH and medication management? Medicaid/Medicare? 9 year wait list?

His name is Dennis Cozzens - just past Potomac Mills. Don't know about Medicare/Medicaid, but does do medication management. Name of practice is Family Psychiatric associates.

Just looking at their website- they don't.
My head isn't in the game right now but I had her (the person that contacted me this morning) put everything in writing. Going on two years now this is the gist of what I've been dealing with-
Hi John,
Just a follow-up regarding our conversation this morning as a follow up to your appointment with us. Jennifer is continuing her recommendation that you seek services closer to your area since you fall outside of our catchment area. I did contact some resources, that I have included below:
-Mary Washington Behavioral Health, does not have a solid time-frame for waitlist, but does schedule people in soonest appointment and fills cancellations as they are able -RCSB, reports that they also are working from a wait with no solid time-frame but that the waitlist is moving very quickly for similary reasons as Mary Washington; the first step would be an assessment that you can walk in at the Fredericksburg Clinic on 600 Jackson Street at the following times to complete (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 8:30am-2:30pm; Wednesdays 8:30am-2:30pm). According to the website, if you have been determined to require services, you will receive a follow up appointment within 10 days. I am not sure if this is still the case, as there has been increased demand.
There are a few places I found, but I have no knowledge of if they are accepting new patients, what insurance they cover, or availability:
-Altahir Behavioral Health (Stafford/Falls Church) - (703) 373-7338 -Gaertner Psychiatric - (540) 372-2028 -Virginia Integrative Psychiatry - (540) 479-1319

I loved Dr. Gaertner. He wasn’t taking new patients when I tried to get back in with him after he took a year off for back issues. But he does have other associates there that would have taken me as a new patient.

And this is the shit, isn't it? Doctors may be available, but they aren't taking new patients because they are barely able to treat the ones they already have.
Medicare for all is a great concept, but until we have real flesh and blood providers out there who have the time and expertise to properly assess patients, then what good is it?
Sorry that my guy doesn't take your insurance.
