She wanted to get the carpets cleaned before her people came over here even though we know it's basically shot and needs to be replaced with wheelchair friendly flooring. So after waiting for her to arrange it, I asked for rec's on a facebook group. Wound up going with the only one that followed my directions and reached out to me on messenger with a price and availability on the date I needed.
Guy shows up on the day and only a couple minutes late. Pulls up in one of those tiny transit vans. He's got something that looks like a commercial office carpet cleaner, which he sets up outside the house and runs wire and hoses from the house out to it and back. I'm already not impressed, having expected a truck mounted equipment as you see with all the professional companies. He had to use hot water from the tub to fill it up and I was like, well I DID find them person on facebook (They are a legit company. I vetted them before making the appointment), and for the price, which was way less than Stanley Steemer, I'm sure it'll be cleaner and bonus points to I don't have to fuck with it.
Anyway, he goes through and pretreats the gnarly stains with an upholstery wand and a bottle of stuff. Then he breaks out this scubbing wand and gets after it. Two hours later he starts packing it all up. Now you can't tell what the end result is until it dries but ours was bad enough that we could tell it was almost what you might call a miracle. He handed me the iPad they use for the transactions and of course it has the tip page right there with the bill. The cleaning was $110 for our great room and master bedroom AND the hallway that goes to the other bedroom.
You know I'm not into tipping for much anything outside the food/beverage services industry but I went ahead and tipped him 30 bucks. He did a fantastic job, did it on one day's notice, and was super nice and polite, and even with the tip was $40 less than the competition. I wouldn't have felt bad about not tipping but it's her money! LOL
