I finally finished a book I’ve been slogging through for about a week. It wasn’t awful, per se, but I couldn’t get into it from the start. I couldn’t keep track of the characters, the dialogue was weird at times and I found myself searching for other forms of entertainment at times. Maybe it was because I knew a new Stephen King book was next up. Who knows?
Anyway, it’s done and I can put it in the finished pile.

I know that this may stun you, but the Book Police will not haul your ass off to jail for screaming 'Done With You!' and throwing a partially finished book across the room and leaving it there.
Just finished Get Out Screaming - Black horror anthology. Some of those stories were creepy AF!
And if you haven't had the chance, read Starter Villain by John Scalizi. Hysterical, and I'm anxiously watching Snicks and hoping she's going to come through for me!

I admire yall for being readers. It's something I've never been able to do. And no, I didn't read the articles in Playboy either.

Heretic! YOU DIDN'T READ THE ARTICLES??? Why not just read Hustler then? I was on the debate team in HS. Was the first negative, which meant I led off the questioning of the team who argued in favor of that year's topic. Junior year - the FDA needs to amend the food and drug act. What should they change and why? So our first affirmative came up with the argument that weed should be legal. Brilliant argument - whole premise was that it should be regulated and taxed the same way cigarettes and alcohol are since it would fall into that category. Had all sorts of studies and CBO statistics on how much money it would bring in, how it could help tobacco companies pivot away from cigs. The entire nine yards, and a pretty damn tight arguement. I was at a loss. I could find something in ANY argument to at least question, and I had nuttin. So I finally resorted to the tactic of the desperate - 'Please name your sources'. This of course set off a large YES from the rest of the affirmative teams cause they all knew I never used that. However, my cohort who came up with the argument went silent. He turns to our advisor and says 'Um..we may have a slight problem....um..this is from an article from the September issue of..um..Playboy.'. Advisor replies 'The one with xx on the cover?' Yup. I was on the floor! You actually READ the articles? In the end, the consensus was that the article quoted many sources and studies. So he was going to do some research to find the dates and titles of the studies so he'd have them if needed. No one ever asked, and we crushed all opposition that year. Best part was that his partner was a born-again Christian. He came to me a week or two later and asked if I thought he was an asshole or pushing his religion on people. When I asked why, he showed me the copy of the article that Greg made for him so he could prepare his arguments as the second affirmative - Greg had very carefully xeroxed it with paper covering all the ads and pictures so his partner wouldn't be offended. He HAD seen pictures of naked women before you know! Ah, the good old days...

Hustler? What's Hustler? LOLLOL and how times have changed. From what I understand, Maxim is more risqué than Playboy nowadays. Joking aside, I probably did read an article on occasion. I actually liked some of the jokes and to this day always cite the one where the guys on the construction site are yelling down in the pit to the excavating crew "STOP DIGGING! THE PLANS WERE UPSIDE DOWN!" I don't remember if it was Playboy or Penthouse that had the poetic "Gimmesome Roy" from The Perfect High... here- www.best-poems.net/shel-silverstein/the-perfect-high.html

My friends and I were always fans of the Penthouse Forum.
"I know this sounds unbelievable, but...."
Yeah dude, that shit never happened to you.

I know I didn’t have to finish it, but I was interested in finding out who actually murdered the town whore. 🤣🤣 The cover promised many plot twists! (It was a paperback I bought years ago at Target - it still had the 20% off sticker on it.)
I had another disappointment. I picked up the Stephen King book before I headed upstairs and discovered that it wasn’t written by him, but edited by him (and a woman). It’s a book of scary short stories about flying. I read the first one and wasn’t scared at all. It was a tad creepy (the flight in question was one of the cargo planes bringing the hundreds of bodies home from Jonestown). Maybe this Jackie Collins smut novel will interest me? 🤣
I usually found great books and discovered many good authors through Target’s “book club”. This was one of the not-so-great ones. But, it could just be my current mood. I’ve got 2 more Laura Lippman novels here (they aren’t Tess Monihan ones, but she usually makes an appearance even if she isn’t the focus in all of Lippman’s novels. But I haven’t been able to get one started.

My last few books have been e-books.
Last One Screaming - Black horror anthology. That was pretty good. Did have some uneven ones, but lots of good ones. North Woods - interesting and well written
Right now I'm reading the Rent Collector - about a woman in Cambodia who lives with her family in a dump where they forage for scraps that can be recycled. The rent collector of the title teaches her how to read. About 1/2 way through and it's pretty good.
Except for the Rent Collector, I get all my ebooks from the library on the Libby app

I tried reading ebooks on my iPad. It’s just not the same. (I even had a kindle!). I also cannot listen to books. I find my mind wanders and I end up rewinding over and over. I guess I’m just old school.

I do both - so mixed school?
Just that I got to the top of the waitlist on several ebooks at the library and had to read them first.
