Amazingly, the AC was running Friday morning/afternoon. I was have trouble sleeping and lying in bed with my sleep mask and hot compresses. I was listening to the wind, hoping the power stays on and all,of I sudden, I hear the AC. It clicks when it starts up. January 13 and the AC is running!

I think I may have a problem. Again, trying to get to sleep noonish. I had just turned off relaxation music (Danny Wright, Black andWhite series of albums. He inspired me to take piano lessons about 20 years ago.) First, I hear a dog. Okay, no big deal, neighbors have dogs. Then, I hear voices! Neighbors? Maybe, but it sounds close, like they are right outside under my windows. I also hear some thumps. Okay, I gotta look. I shed all my facial shit (mask and compress) and peer blindly out of both windows. Of course, without my glasses I couldn’t see much. They would have to have been huge and moving for me to pick them out of the blur. Crawl back in bed and reapply the facial paraphernalia and I hear voices again! This continues, even after I finally drift off. When I awoke to pee, I could still hear the voices and the thumping. Had to be the neighbors next door, right? Nothing seemed amiss on my front porch when I made it downstairs this evening.
A few days ago, I thought I heard someone knock on my bedroom door! I was almost asleep, so I figured I was dreaming.
Am I going crazy?

How close are the neighbors? Lately I've been hearing mine when they're out with the dogs. Don't know if it's the way the wind is blowing that carries their voices or not, but yeah, it almost sounds like they're in the back yard.

I used to leave the radio on downstairs, at first for the dogs. Then, I left it on because I didn’t like coming downstairs to a silent house. So I did hear Howard and Robin’s voices drift up the stairs. But that radio is dead (or dying - I can’t get a signal).
My neighbors are generally quiet. The newest ones are the closest (they moved in about a year ago). I am horrible at judging distances, but they are maybe 30 yards from me?
it’s the voices thing that bothers me, having lived with a paranoid schizophrenic. One of the first times my second husband slept at my apartment in Fredericksburg, we were in bed and he asked me if I heard voices. I almost had a panic attack until I heard them - the window was open and some people were walking up the street (I lived near the college). My hearing now leaves a lot to be desired. Coupled with tinnitus, I hear not what I should but do hear all kinds of weird noises - ringing, thumping, hissing, humming. It’s a literal Stomp show in my ears.

With the impending cold snap, I went to turn on the emergency heat on the main thermostat. It was already on! No wonder my electric bill was $60 more for one of the mildest Januarys we’ve had! (So much for solar power credit, right?😜😜😜).

Our gas bill was 250 bucks (JAN). We have gas heat, stove, and hot water. And a gas fireplace we've turned on maybe 3 times. I cringe at the thought of what it will be if it gets cold for real.

Just be glad you don't have oil heat - sister spent $3000 to fill the oil tank this year! That didn't count the annual maintenance on the furnace.

I took a couple of trades courses at NOVA a long time ago and one that I was kind of proud of was "combustion" heating systems. As it turned out, the units they had us practicing on were both gas and oil fired. I suppose the cost of that course probably went up bigly!
What made me proud was the fact that I was one of the only true "green" people in the class. The rest were already in the HVAC industry and I even remember being laughed at for answering a question wrong (and apparently laughable) by a guy wearing his work uniform..... anyway I wound up acing it just like the seasoned "pros".

Sister bought an electric fireplace for my mom who's always cold. Before that, mom was turning up the heat like there was no tomorrow and they had their own oil well!
It makes me glad that I moved further South - lost of homes up North use oil heat, especially the older ones.

The first house we moved into in Fredericksburg was a rental in Highland Homes. It had oil heat. Mom was so happy when they bought the all electric house in Grafton village. She said the oil heat was dirty. Boy did she have a comeuppance when dad put the wood insert in and declared we were heatwitwood. 🤣🤣🤣 What a mess! By that time, my room was in the basement so I was toasty warm next to the stove.

When we moved down here, we looked at a house in Presidential Lakes. It had a few nice features, but I have to admit that I was fascinated by the room that lead to the deck. It must have been the guy's man cave, and let me tell ya, that much like Teddy Roosevelt, there wasn't an animal that this guy didn't want to kill and mount! The star of the show was a giant buck that you saw the moment you walked into the room. And that deer did not go gently into that good night - had a glare (up until then I did not know you could put expressions into the eyes of a taxidermized animal, but I guess it is a thing), and it's teeth were slightly barred. In other words, it was the most freaky conversation piece I had ever encountered, and I coveted it Because of the deer, we took a second look. Place was vacant, so the deer (my big motivation) was gone, so I was able to focus on the other nifty features. Like the second full kitchen in the basement. Hmmmm. Where is the AC in this house? Turns out no AC, and oil heat in combination with forced air electric baseboards. OH HELL NO! But I still think of that deer. Why their realtor didn't make them take it down to sell the house faster is beyond me.

I decided to put my garage back together from a weekend full of projects and the door was wide open. Except for an occasional hard breeze it's comfortable for me in jeans and tee shirt.
PS it's days like this that remind me how lucky I am to have outdoor spaces to enjoy what I enjoy- being outdoors.

I went outside for the first time in a week (for the same reason) this morning to take out the garbage. It was lovely.
It was 54 degrees in my room when I got there Saturday morning around 1130. I was surprised it hadn’t warmed up more.

On my second date with the spouse we waited for AAA to tow my car. It died in rush hour on CT ave outside of Kensington. Guy helped me push it into the parking lot of a church on a side street. Walked for what felt like miles in high heels to get on a bus to Wheaton, then walked for what felt like more miles to my townhouse to find my date sitting sadly on the steps. (I was almost an hour late at that point). Instead of apologizing, the first words out of my mouth were "Do you have a AAA membership? If so, may I use it?" (best pick-up line EVER, amiright) We called them, drove to the A&P and picked up drinks, chips and sandwich making supplies, drove over to this church and sat in the dark parking lot waiting for our tow truck. For 2.5 hours. Now if that isn't your idea of a romantic date, I'm not sure what is!

Patrick said the local AAA garage decided not to do it anymore. Car charged right up! No issues. He recommended so called a “trickle charger” that you plug into a wall outlet and it keeps the battery going. I just ordered one (it’s a cheap on - $18 with taxes). Now I’ve got to find an outlet that I can use. Possibly the one on the deck, if my extension cord is long enough. Since the garage door is stuck closed, I have limited options.

So, ran the car for over 30 minutes. The trickle thing will be here tomorrow.
And I strolled down to the mailbox to mail some valentines. And I did that I’ve misplaced my debit card. 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫

Not good. What kind of cover do you have? I have a woven toddler blanket made of cotton that is 'just right' for this time of year - light, so you don't sweat, but still warm enough to fend off the chill.
However, it is a toddler blanket, so really only good for sitting upright in a chair and taking a nap. Keep telling myself I need to find one in an adult size.
But it's in the 60s again today - time to throw off the clothes and run around naked in hopes that the temps don't go back down!

It was just me, I think. I felt crappy the whole night. At one point Thursday, a stabbing pain awoke me after I had finally drifted off into a fitful sleep. My bed always looks like a war zone after a session like that. Between the sweats, which seem worse during slumber, the panic attacks and whatever this was I’m lucky I get any sleep at all. I’m now having to switch between pillows, to allow the sweat to dry. 😂

After reading through the user’s manual for this “tickle charger”, I don’t think I’m qualified to use it. If it’s negative grounded, do it this way; if it’s positive grounded do it that way. WTF? 🤪🤪😜 It sounds like this device is exactly what I need but I don’t think I can use it. 😫
