It says the hdmi port I used didn’t support something. Maybe I should try to find the connection for the other cable - is that an optical cable?
Edited to add - optical cable seems to have worked.
Boy do I feel like an idiot! I had no idea that this tiny little cable was called an optical connection. It still doesn’t seem to be as loud as it was on my other tv. Or maybe the ringing is exceptionally loud in my ears today.
I guess I don’t need the firestick anymore since I connected the tv to my Wi-Fi. I hesitated doing that due to the low bandwidth and limited data. I didn’t connect the old tv at all.

Tell me about it. I've fumbled the ball about 20 times in a couple of days. Last night, after my fiasco with WM and some others I didn't mention, I tried to cook some chicken for tacos and wound up grabbing the cinnamon rather than the chili powder (yes, my spices are alphabetized in the cabinet) and because I took the lid off all the way, dumped a half the bottle on the chicken. FML. Luckily I was able to get most of it off and to be honest it was more of a happy accident as everything turned out delicious.

Cinnamon and Chili is definitely a happy combo if you ask me.
And I should alphabetize my spices. Would make cooking a lot easier!

My new receiver should be here Friday. Soon, everything will be back to almost normal.

I watched “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” yesterday (yes, I’m waaaaay behind on movies) and I have to say, Quentin Tarantino is a genius! What a script! And Brad Pitt is still gorgeous. I had no idea that the story was around the Manson stuff! I loved the period music, clothing, late-60s LA. And the best was that the dog was a hero - a pibble, no less! And what a beautiful pibble he is.
It is sad that Tarantino will probably only do one more movie.

Oh, and my monthly subscribe and save order from Amazon still hasn’t arrived. When I check the site, it says it’s delayed. But I’ve received a couple of other orders from them this week - and another is arriving today. Very very odd.
And my Diet Coke order from Walmart was supposedly delivered over the weekend, but I never saw it. I contacted them via website to let them know. It magically appeared on my doorstep late yesterday (after 5 pm hen I went upstairs) and was in a horrible condition. Huge hole in the box and it was nearly twisted. I feel the blame should go to whoever packed 12 two liter bottles in one box!

It's weird - you'll get a single pair of socks securely packed in a box with inflatable pillows, then something that SHOULD have a separate box comes in one jammed with other stuff.
I'd love to know the logic behind how stuff gets packed in warehouses.

I checked the FedEx app this morning to see if my new receiver was still on the way today. When I tracked it, the status changed to delayed (until tomorrow, even though it is in Hagerstown). Okay, I guess I can wait one more day. (I am surprised how excited I am, though!). Then about 10 minutes ago, I received a text from FedEx, saying my package was delayed. About 5 minutes after that, another text that my package was being delivered today. I know m I just went through this with the tv, but jeez. Get your shit together!
I’ve still got a few movies to catch up on (watched The Hurt Locker yesterday - hated it!) and I’m reading a Dean Koontz novel that is intensely terrifying (I should finish it today), so I’m good either way. But I have to laugh at ineptness, otherwise I would scream.
Oh, and Directv told me they weren’t sending return packaging for the broken receiver as they weren’t interested in getting it back. That wasn’t surprising, given the stack of them I have here. But, lo and behold, I receive an email instructing me on how to return it! Should I bother?

I had the same thing happen with a package yesterday - delayed until today, then delivered an hour later. Who knows?
And 100% return that receiver if they send you instructions or they'll charge. Even though it's a piece of crap.

The delivery that arrived seems to be the return stuff - it’s ,ugh too light to be a receiver. No problem. I pulled out my box set of ER. I have always loved this show. Clooney - 😍😍😍😍😍

Back in our basement days we watched almost our entire DVD Library and it took awhile. Several hundred and we watched probably 90% of them.

The receiver arrived. They sent a genie, which is totally different from what I had before. Got everything connected and plugged it in. First of all, the remote wouldn’t work. After 30 minutes of fooling around with everything, I called directv. They helped me get the remote working. Now, I can’t get off the satellite configuration screen. I flummoxed one tech. Now I’m waiting for an “upper level” one to call.

No. The movies I have left to watch (that I haven’t seen yet) are Harriet, Motherless Brooklyn, and a couple animated movies - something like The Secret Life of Pets? I also have the rest of the final season of Dexter to finish, but I’ve misplaced disk 2 of the collection. I can’t watch disk 3 without watching disk 2!

As I sit here awaiting the technician, I wonder if he is even going to show. Two weeks ago, they emailed me about the appointment, and texted to confirm a couple days before the allotted time (which allowed me to cancel). I’ve received none of that this time. I check the website and it is there. The tech has one call before me, so he is definitely not going to be here during the early part of the appointment window (1200-1600). All this anxiety just to hear him say he can’t help me. I know that is what is going to happen. Why did I bother?

As expected, they can’t fix it. Because my dish is too high on the roof, and they aren’t allowed to climb on roofs. Why the hell did they put it up there, then?
So, I guess I cancel diectv. Maybe call dish and see what they can do for me.

I called to cancel. They are sending someone else out to see if they can put up a new dish somewhere else near the house. (At my rental in “downtown” King George, they put it on a pole off the little back porch). I’m not sure, with all the tree growth, they will find a place that will gachieve clear libe of sight, but it’s worth a try. And, if they can’t find a spot, Dish probably can’t either. They will be here early Monday.
My other option is Starlink for internet, allowing streaming capabilities.

Bummer.
I'd go with the other dish company and see what they say when they come to do the install. I guess you still don't have actual broadband there? Satellite tv has become the dsl of tv signals.

There is one cable company but it is down more than available from what I’ve seen and heard. My friend canceled cable recently because they increased prices but still provided crappy service. That is it. No DSL. No fiber.

Yeah, KG sucks ass when it comes to internet. They're developing like there's no tomorrow - I always wonder how many fools check to see what type of connectivity they're going to get before they plop down those bucks.

Not too long ago our daughter and sil and nugget,... Got a deal on wireless broadband in an area near the area of where Fauquier Stafford and Prince William come together where when we were staying there it was a fiddy fiddy on cell service. They are getting wifi that allows her to work from home and watch 4k tv every day and night for a reasonable price. I would certainly hope that it was at least because of the spanberger legislation to get access to underserved which in this case meant bubba world, and get them that high speed internet. Certainly in an area in such close proximity to dahlgren and colonial beach and by tower standards laplata and Fredericksburg you be seeing some flyers about that real soon.

I did manage to get a credit for the downtime over the past 2+ weeks, plus they waived the fee for a new dish installation. I have a very long history with them. When I was married, we got one of those ginormous dishes, before directv (the cable, although a different company, was awful back then as well). We switched to directv shortly after it became available. The wait time for moving that dish to the proper satellite was horrible. So, I’ve had directv for quite a while, with a short break when I was living with mom. I even had their internet when I was renting. At Mom’s, I got internet through Cox, and it was glorious! It was faster than the internet we had at work! Those were the good ole days.

During the pandemic, Stafford schools won a grant to install satellite internet (I think that's what it was) in the more rural areas of the county. The idea was that there would be a box mounted in a neighborhood that provided a signal that people could connect to - you'd be charged on a sliding scale based on income.
Don't know whatever became of it though.

We have starlink here. But, from what I’ve heard, the initial cost is very expensive. I had Directv’s version of satellite internet years ago (I think Hughes bought them out). It wasn’t all that great.
Others have recommended a hotspot from TMobile. They say the speed is good enough for gaming, streaming, etc. But TMobile coverage isn’t good enough in all parts of the county as people constantly complain about dropped calls, not getting a signal, etc.
I’m almost done with season 2 of ER. I may switch to The Americans. Some of these ER episodes are depressing, and I forgot how much I hated Carrie Weaver (the character).

FINALLY! It took 2 days, but I was finally able to get my Directv service cancelled. I kept getting in this infinite loop with the automated phone answering. It was so frustrating! I had to lie in order to speak to a human being! And when I finally got her I was somewhat rude. I apologized, but still feel awful. It’s not her fault their automation is wacky.
Now to charge my phone…
