Gotta get back on track and get my weight under 300 by the end of this year. Yeah it would be great to get to my ultimate goal by then (230) but I'm not worried about that. In fact, losing that much weight would most likely be doomed over the long run. I've lost about 35 pounds in the last year and even though I fluctuate between about 320 and 325, I've kept those 35 off.
They say you have to change your lifestyle first and I agree. I cut my alcohol intake in half of what it was just a few couple years ago. Now I plan to cut that in half, and have already been working on that. No illusions how difficult that will be when warm weather sets in for the summer months. The trick is not to "quit" because I will surely fail at any such effort. Of course that's only part of the pie hole formulary, and portion control/common sense dietary considerations have not been taken very seriously yet. So that's the other part of what I plan to work on. One sandwich for lunch instead of two, and something other than chips or other goodies to accompany. No seconds for dinner. Stuff like that.
I've been pretty good about going to the gym since I joined Planet Fatness last April. It's amazing what I'm able to do now that I could hardly think of doing when I started out. I started with riding the recumbent bike for 15 or 20 minutes at a moderate pace, going from 2 to 3 to four to 5 and 6 miles, up to 15 or 16+ miles in an hour. Then I started on the treadmill and that was a real test that goes back to the first sentence. It was SO awkward and hard to get into any kind of comfort zone and after walking for 15 or 20 minutes, would step off and be completely disoriented. It would take me a few minutes to where my eyes would tell my feet where they should be. It seemed liked there was no way that equipment and me were going to get along at all. But then I just focused on getting that mile in, and then 2. FF 10 months and I can now get 3 miles in in about 60 minutes, and have even done that in under 60 when I'm feeling it. Have also gone over 4 miles several times. Weights haven't been a big focus yet but Plan 299 calls for more of that. An hour of cardio and no less than 30 minutes of weights minimum. The goal being an hour of each on any given day OR two hours of one or the other, minimum 4 days a week and goal: 5 days/wk.

Rock on with your bad self!
I gained two belt holes. I do 2 miles on elliptical in about 22 minutes*, then hit the machines till something says uncle. Since I've been bringing a guest, I'm missing that massage chair.
Trying to keep heart in the 150bpm range. Which is working out pretty good.

That's an insane pace bro!!!
I lost 3 belt holes but found one. Net 2. Which makes sense considering I went from 46 to 44 waist in jeans but can wear my 42s if I take a healthy dump first thing in the am. It's not a goal per se but getting into 36s again would be tits mcgee.

We are all doomed. I'm living each day as though it's my last.
i stopped by Martin's in Ashland on my way home from Chester (I drove a transport leg for Colonel Potter Cairn Rescue) and finally got my birthday cake. I can't wait to try it! It's only 6 weeks late, but who cares?

I bought a chocolate birthday cake for my car this weekend - I got an email reminding me that it's due for it's 1 year checkup, so I thought it must be time for a celebration

I was a bit confused. The store used to be a Ukrops. I pulled off 95 to stop in there then remembered it was Sunday and they wouldn't be open. Drove by anyway and saw it was no longer a Ukrops and they were open. But when I went inside, they had Ukrops bakery items, Ukrops prepared foods (spoon bread! Mac and cheese!), beautiful plants and flowers like Ukrops had. It was surreal.
I had never bought myself a whole cake before. Individual pieces, yes. My physical therapist gave me the idea. She bought herself an ice cream cake but went so far as to have her name put on it. Of course, she has a young daughters, which makes sense.
I prefer pound cake. It's delicious! I don't regret a single bite.

I didn't go so far as to put happy birthday to the Precious on the cake, but I did make Mr. Minx sit through it's birthday song so I could justify having cake!

I'm so jealous that you can do all that, Pete. I'm working my upper body but the lower half is falling apart. I got up to pee early this morning and couldn't put weight on my left knee. I already had a compression wrap on it because of the pain and swelling overnight. This is my strong side, as my right knee gives way on me quite often! I was hoping to put off knee replacement until next year at the earliest, but now I'm not sure I can wait that long.
Just shoot me. Please.

Nothing to be jealous of. Being a decent athlete when I was younger and the type of work I've done all my life has probably helped a lot. Plus keeping up with the kids, coaching their sports, being an umpire, and all of that kept me active up until a few years ago. The scary thing is how quickly the inactivity since then piled up on me physically and mentally.
Gotta keep going until we can't. If all you do is 2, do 2. Try for 3 tomorrow. If not, do 2 every day until you can do 3. Then do 3 every day until you can do 4. But the do is the important part, not the number.
PS- I was so sore from Leg Day on Sunday, which is because I hadn't done a Leg Day in a LONNNNNG time, so sore that I rescheduled a job I had yesterday until today. Standing on a ladder with rubber legs is not a great idea when you're holding a $2000 projector.

But you are right. K9, do what you can, and then you'll be able to do more.

My knees won't hold me up. There's no soft tissue left there - it's all bone on bone. It's getting so bad now that even driving is painful. When I was out Sunday, I got a cramp in my right ankle/foot. I was in heavy traffic, so couldn't use cruise control. I just had to power through. Also the knees complain bitterly if they don't change positions often. So much for my transport driving.
I'm frustrated that my left knee is degenerating so quickly. I thought I had more time to get the right one fixed. Life's a bitch.
I think I was destined to be a hermit!

Total fail at the gym today. Got in (half the battle, or so they say) and got started on the tred as usual. Tried kicking up the pace early instead of gradually. Got about 1.25 miles and CRASH! No, not literally, just figuratively.
Grabbed my shit and came home. Threw some leftover baby backs in the microwave and a High Life. Fuck it.
For today anyway.

You are an A NI MAL!
I got 5 miles on the treadmill today. I'm not gonna brag about time, because taint real impressive... but 5 miles without stopping for a beer is at least a mile more than my old record.
This after a BRUTAL leg day Sunday.
I'm hungry.

JP - allow me to recommend 2 things - elliptical crosstrainers and Nutrisystem. Nutrisystem works, you're hungry only a occasionally, and the elliptical is zero impact and great cardio.
You have to get rid of the 300+ stuff. I play poker in Ashland, Va. with something called the East Coast Poker League, and the fellow that had been running it was way heavy like that. He wasn't an old guy, but he was a huge guy, and he dropped dead a few weeks ago, not from exertion and a heart attack, but from sleeping and a heart attack. Wife found him dead in bed. I've had acquaintances and friends - one guy was a rallymaster in Chicago, was absolutely huge, and at age 49, passed in his sleep on a Christmas eve in the 1990's. In the 2000's, a lady friend of mine was huge like that, and had a heart attack while laying on the couch and watching TV. She also was 49.
I'm 69 and did 1300 calories in an hour and 24 minutes last night, not straight-thru but 30 minutes and then 54 minutes because the particular machine I had to use (someone was on my favorite one) only would accept 58 minutes max. My favorite machine goes to 60, so I would otherwise have done 60 minutes and then 24. 1300 calories of burn is enough to overpower my nasty habit of eating too much. I ate about 2400 calories yesterday. My metabolism is around 1700 calories (its been permamently wrecked by dieting, where you diet and your body starts conserving and lowers your metabolism), so 800 calories of my 1300 calories of exercise went to just "breaking even." The other 500 went to actual weight loss. Today may be a better day - I'm not ravenously hungry right now like I usually am when I wake up, so I may be able to skip breakfast. Maybe get more than 500 calories of weight loss after a 1300 calorie burn. I'm NOT on Nutrisystem right now (I get sick of it... then drop back to regular food. Maybe I'll get back on eventually, but I'm 197, my ultimate goal is 180, but if I don't make it, I look pretty good at 197 anyway and 13 lbs of "overweight" (charts say I'm overweight at 184) isn't particularly dangerous.) But today is Wednesday, tonight is poker in Ashland, and the burger I usually get is 760 calories all by itself. I put the fries at about 400. So that one meal is really expensive, calorie-wise. See how it shakes out.
But anyway, being 300+ is not a good formula for living a long time. U need to do something serious if you want to do that.

6.4 miles / 1200 calories on elliptical today. Usually get 1300 calories, but ran out of time to get to a doctor's appt. A little medication adjustment is all, nothing major. Doctor said he's never heard of Nexium or drugs like it causing muscle pain, but that's what's happened with me. Otherwise, big coincidence that I start taking the goop and develop the same sort of pain that I had with the statin drugs, only not as vicious. Statins damn near crippled me, I couldn't stand for more than 3 minutes at a time 'cuz it was too painful. Have a muscle in left hip that never recovered, and which complains when walking any distance at all, even in just big box stores. Don't want to do that again.

You're a brave soul. I quit Prevacid as soon as I heard about the kidney damage these drugs can cause. I have 2 but neither are in perfect shape, as Lupus poked a bunch of holes in them nearly 40 years ago. I've switched to Zantac 150 twice a day. I'm also using Turmeric but it also has other benefits.
